Extension Privacy Policy

This policy applies specifically to the Wevi UI Extractor Chrome extension. For the Wevi platform privacy policy, see our main privacy policy.

1. What the Extension Does

The Wevi UI Extractor extension reads the layout of web pages you visit and captures a screenshot of the active tab. This data is sent to your Wevi account so you can generate animated product videos from your own UI.

The extension operates only when you explicitly click "Extract & Send". It does not run in the background, track your browsing history, or collect any data passively.

2. Data We Collect

a. Page Layout (DOM Structure)

When you trigger an extraction, the extension reads the bounding box positions of UI elements on the active tab — the same information your browser uses to render the page. No page text, passwords, form values, or cookies are read or transmitted.

b. Screenshot

A screenshot of the active tab is captured at the moment you click "Extract & Send". This image is sent directly to your Wevi account and is not stored by the extension itself.

c. User Token and Email

When you sign in to Wevi, your account token and email address are stored locally in chrome.storage.local on your device. This links the extension to your Wevi account so your extraction data is routed to the right place. This information is never sent to any third party.

3. How Data Is Used

Extracted layout data and screenshots are sent exclusively to your Wevi account server to generate animated videos. Specifically:

  • Layout data is used to identify UI components (navbar, hero, cards, buttons, etc.)

  • Screenshots are used as source assets for video rendering

  • Your token identifies which account receives the data

We do not use this data for advertising, analytics, or any purpose other than providing the Wevi service to you.

4. Data Storage

  • chrome.storage.local stores your user token and email address locally on your device. This data is cleared if you uninstall the extension.

  • Screenshot and layout data is transmitted to Wevi servers and handled according to the main privacy policy. It is not retained by the extension after transmission.

  • No data is written to your local filesystem.

5. Permissions Explained

The extension requests the following Chrome permissions:

activeTab

Required to read the layout and capture a screenshot of the page you are currently viewing when you click "Extract & Send". Access is granted only for the duration of that single action and only on the tab you are actively using.

scripting

Required to run a small script in the active tab that reads element positions using getBoundingClientRect(). This script reads visual layout only — it does not access page content, credentials, or any stored data.

storage

Required to save your user token and email address locally in chrome.storage.local, so the extension stays linked to your Wevi account between browser sessions without requiring you to sign in again.

tabs

Required to retrieve the URL of the active tab (displayed in the extension popup) and to focus the Wevi tab after installation so the account connection completes automatically.

6. Third-Party Sharing

We do not share any data collected by the extension with third parties. Extracted data is sent only to Wevi servers under your account. No advertising networks, analytics providers, or data brokers receive any information from this extension.

7. Data from Authenticated Pages

The extension may be used on pages that require you to be signed in (e.g., your own product dashboard). In these cases:

  • Only visual layout positions are extracted — no session tokens, cookies, or credentials are read.

  • The screenshot captures what is visually rendered on screen, the same as taking a screenshot manually.

  • You remain in full control of which page you extract from.

8. Children's Privacy

The Wevi extension is not intended for use by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy when the extension's functionality changes. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any revisions. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
